After finishing them all, a final eighth story unlocks, tying the narratives together. Seven of the stories are presented episodically and can be completed in any order. Each of the stories takes place in a different period of human history, including Imperial China, the Wild West, and the far-future. Like its spiritual successor series Octopath Traveler, Live A Live features eight different stories, starring eight different protagonists.
